Episode 6: Living With Viola

We’re introduced to Rosena Fung’s playful graphic novel Living with Viola, a book about a girl learning to tame her anxiety. Then, Ainara travels by train and subway to visit Rosena in her Toronto studio, where they discuss the themes of the book and Rosena’s art. There’s even time for a little drawing demonstration from Rosena.

Livy is already having trouble fitting in as the new girl at school--and then there's Viola. Viola is Livy's anxiety brought to life, a shadowy twin that only Livy can see or hear. Livy tries to push back against Viola's relentless judgment but only when Livy learns how to ask for help and face her anxiety does she finally figure out living with Viola.

Rosena is an illustrator and writer that grew up and is based in Toronto, Canada. Her very first graphic novel was Living With Viola! When she is not drawing, Rosena can be found teaching illustration, vending at zine fairs, and going to the library.
